History: Settled initially in the spring of 1850, the city was incorporated through a special act of the state legislature on April 18, 1856. The community was reincorporated as a city in 1874 and received a charter in 1895.
Today: Eureka is the center of business and government for the 137 mile long county. Eureka's attractions include a restored Old Town District, Sequoia Park and Zoo, Woodley Island, a thriving arts community and numerous samples of finely restored Victorian architecture.
